The students of the University of Ladakh, performed a nukkad natak on World Menstrual Hygiene Day today on the 28th May. The play addressed issues like taboos and stigmas around mensuration and menstruating people, and raised awareness about mensuration and health hygiene. It urged for collective and systematic action to ensure better access to menstrual products and understand mensuration not only as a health issue, a matter of dignity but also as an environmental issue. The event was organized by National Health Mission, UT Ladakh. Honourable First Lady, Smt. Neelam Mishra graced the event as the Chief Guest. While Ms. Bhanu Prabha (IAS) Mission Director NHM Ladakh welcomed the guests, Ms. Shashanka Ala, IAS, Secretary, Social & Tribal Welfare Department delivered the keynote address. Scientific aspects of mensuration and menstrual health was addressed by Dr. Stanzin Dolkar, Consultant Gynaecologist, SNM Hospital. Dr. Tashi Thinles, Director, Health Services; Ms. Tashi Dolma, Director, Social Welfare; members from various NGOs were among other guests. A menstrual health hygiene pledge, led by Hon’ble first Lady, Smt. Neelam Mishra, was taken by all present affirming commitment to health, support and dignity
